A Review of the TOOR Lockbox

Since there are now options for real estate lockboxes, it’s only fitting that they they get reviewed. This article is a review on the new Toor lockbox. First, it’s only fair to give a quick lockbox backstory. Most of of the time, real estate agents do not have a say in the choice of the professional grade lockbox they have access to. The lockbox company has a relationship with the local association and therefore endorses one product exclusively. The two main options are the Supra lockbox and the Sentrilock lockbox. The Sentrilock has a clear advantage over Supra because it has a keypad that allows listing agents to give a 1-day code to selling agents or buyers that aren’t paying into the system and therefore don’t have a way to access the lockbox. However, this advantage didn’t matter that much because agents use only the lockbox promoted by their association. Then along came the Toor lockbox…

Based on looks alone, the Toor is a more attractive lockbox. It comes in a variety of colors, but as someone who has used lockboxes for years, the matte black is more practical to hide any scuffs from rubbing and banging againts door knobs, water pipes, and gates. Beauty aside, we need to explore the functionality of the self proclaimed “#1 smart lockbox on the market.”

To get the full experience, we should go through the whole experience starting from the purchase. Once it’s ordered online, a shipping confirmation email comes. Mine was shipped from Texas to my office in San Diego. Shipping was fast, 3 days I believe, and tracking notifications were sent throughout the process.

The Toor lockbox unpacks like the iPhone of lockboxes. It arrives in a standard parcel box, but with the Toor tape for a little flair. Once you open the box you will find the packaging for the lockbox secured in bubble wrap.

The lockbox itself is in a case with a sleeve. The sleeve comes off and the case is opened to find a sleek lockbox and directions to add the app.

The lockbox has a discreetly covered USB charging port on the side. You firmly press the middle to turn it on. The user knows when the lockbox is live because of a colorful ring that illuminates.

Before the lockbox came, I had added the Toor app on my iPhone. So when I opened the app on my phone I was able to login to the main menu, select “my lockboxes,” and then add a lockbox. It’s simple, and once your phone pairs with the lockbox the led light ring turns blue, indicating bluetooth connection.

The interface is very easy to navigate. The battery life of the lockbox is displayed. The user can press “open lockbox” from their phone which triggers the bottom to open the key holder and prompts a green light on the front of the lockbox. Then you can shut the key holder, which prompts a red light signaling that it’s shut.

When you release the shackle, the ring turns purple to indicate the shackle is ready to be unlocked.

A lockbox doesn’t need to be terribly sophisticated to serve its purpose, but it does need some important functions to make accessibility more effecient. The Toor lockbox allows the lockbox owner to permit access to other agents, or anyone with the app on their phone. This ability to gives the lockbox owner unprecedented access to easily control and allow access on their phone. This feature alone gives Toor an tremendous advantage over other professional grade lockboxes. When you experience the functionality and  control through your smartphone you suddenly realize that this is how a lockbox should function in the digital age. I can’t imagine somone trying a Toor lockbox and then returning to the cumbersome Supra or Sentrilock.

If you can’t tell already, we think the Toor lockbox is far superior than other professional grade lockboxes. However, there is something else that is important to note. The Toor Lockbox is independent of the local associations of realtors. This means you don’t have to join a board, or if you are a MLS only member, you don’t have to become a full member to access a lockbox. Even more, the lockbox is nationwide. So, as it stands, one local association might use Supra, and another Sentrilock, and paying members of one lockbox can’t get access to listings with the other lockbox, because different boards are equipping their members with different types of lockboxes.
